Environmental Manager – Wakefield

12 month FTC

Wakefield Operations is the largest plant in CCEP and the biggest soft drink plant in Europe which produces about a third of GB’s volume across their 8 manufacturing, and 2 preform lines. The site can produce 540,000 cans per hour and 132,000 bottles per hour. What to expect:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, QESH , you will lead on-site Environmental expertise and the implementation of Environmental policies and standards to ensure the site protects its products, people and environmental reputation. You will ensure compliance to legislative, regulatory and statutory requirements.
 

  • To create and lead the Environmental Roadmaps for Energy & Carbon, Water and Waste and achieve excellence in environmental performance, with focus on delivering optimal benefit within FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Lead environmental risk management and incident investigations to ensure there is no risk to products, people or environment.
  • Support change initiatives across site to manage risk associated with environmental aspects and to deliver products on time, in full and of expected quality
  • Drive and influence change management to support the CCEP ‘This is Forward’ agenda and integrating with site activities to ensure the impact on customers is minimized and to protect product integrity and branding.
  • Lead the site in delivery of the ‘Environmental Monitoring Plan’ (EMP) and compliance to environmental and CRS requirements
  • Active involvement in optimisation of resources through continual improvement
  • Interpret & integrate CCEP GB & The Coca Cola Company policies & procedures into site processes and ways of working adapting site standard operating procedures/work instruction for the site Environmental management control systems
  • Define and execute the standards for Environmental Aspects and Impact assessments to ensure hazards are recognised and eliminated
  • Define and execute Best Available Technique assessments and utilise the outputs to improve environmental standards and contribute to Continuous Improvement projects
  • Manage the disposal or recycling of solid waste in accordance with the site environmental policy and practices
  • Manage the disposal of liquid and water waste in accordance with the Site Environmental policy and practices
  • Identify opportunities to improve waste management, energy and water consumptions
  • Support GB in building annual strategy & objectives in line with requirements for site & legislations
  • Lead & drive a culture of engagement towards the Environment
  • Ensure Environmental Management systems are in place across site in accordance with CCEP requirements, ISO 14001, SEPA Environmental Permitting and customer specific requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge in line with current environmental legislation
  • Conduct QESH/Internal audits, driving continuous improvement
  • Define working instructions and standards to implement Environmental CCEP policy and legal requirements and review them annually to ensure still relevant
  • Lead all Environmental audits within the Site, prepare the Action Plans from the audits observations and ensure its implementation
  • Provide annual objectives for Environmental KBI’s, provide monthly reporting of results obtained and evaluate the achievement of objectives
  • Maintain, with the support of the Management System Manager, and communicate all legal required tracking information of the Site and Business operations and the Environmental effects (waste generated of different materials, water and energy consumption, hazardous materials managed and their quantities, production volumes, kilometers driven, etc)
  • Support the QESH Manager preparing a bottom-up Annual Business Plan for the Environmental function at the Site and managing the budget along the year
  • Coach teams through Environmental related incident investigations to ensure there is no risk to people and incorporate learnings into future operational practices
  • Support the Engineering & Technology department in New Investments or initiatives within the Organization to ensure its compliance with Environmental legal requirements and the impact of those projects is minimum or positive in terms of Environmental KBI’s
  • Participate in the Site QESH routines providing Environmental KBI’s and the status of the CRS (Carbon Reduction Strategy) related actions
  • Participate in Operational Excellence projects as required


 

Skills & Essentials:

  • Degree or equivalent in a Scientific or Technical Discipline
  • dedicated environmental specialist within Fast Moving Consumer Goods with a history of delivering environmental benefit within manufacturing and distribution
  • Proven record of implementing step changes in environment and sustainability performance, including evidence of leading a site to carbon neutral delivering bold commitments through teamwork, effort and skill
  • Project management experience, delivered on time, to budget and achieving planned environmental benefits including Carbon, Water and Energy efficiency
  • Experience working as an environmental manager for minimum 5 years
  • Experience of working with legislative and enforcement agencies e.g. Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, local authorities and national government bodies.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 (accomplished internal auditor)
  • Knowledge of world class manufacturing methods and techniques
  • Experience of Food Factory Quality Standards, Governance
  • Ability to influence and coach others
  • Strong experience of completing risk assessment
  • Positive and engaging work and personal attitude
  • Knowledge of GMP/GDP would be advantageous.
  • Lead all environmental internal and 3rd party audits
