The role – what is it we would like you to do?
Currie & Brown is currently looking for a senior/ principal/ associate level consultant within our advisory services team in London to deliver the technical lead role around our suite of carbon assessment and consulting services. This role is a great opportunity for someone who has a keen interest in sustainability, a strong background in carbon assessments and associated consultancy, and someone who enjoys collaborating with different teams on a variety of projects.
The successful candidate will support our team leadership in generating a high standard of service delivery around embodied and whole life carbon, achieving successful outcomes for our clients, capturing and sharing knowledge across projects, enhancing our culture of innovation and reinforcing our reputation as a preferred service provider.
Currie & Brown’s specialist sustainability team are leaders in the field, working with clients delivering technical advice throughout the project lifecycle across residential, health, commercial property, public, infrastructure, retail, and other sectors. Our work also includes advancing the transition to a sustainable built environment, working with governments and industry, providing analysis for policy, research and standards.
Your core duties will involve:

  • Technical lead on Embodied Carbon assessments (to support strategic lead)
  • Bid, win and oversee and QA delivery of work under ‘carbon services’ such as LCA’s or Whole Life Carbon (WLC) assessments.
  • Support development of carbon services workstreams and business development (work, templates and marketing materials, process standardisation, develop expertise hub within SAS team).
  • Provide technical mentoring to other team members who are developing their carbon assessment skills
  • Support the provision of bespoke advice to clients including research and data gathering, quantitative analysis (including life cycle assessment, energy and risk models), facilitation of workshops
  • Provide internal interface between Carbon (LCA) and costing (LCC) team
  • Support team leads in securing robust pipeline of work and resourcing projects within team
  • Proficient and skilled in use of OneClick LCA and Microsoft Excel and ability to learn other software’s such as Power BI, EC3, eTool etc.
  • Produce high quality technical outputs including presentations, reports and datasets
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and clients to develop and agree robust plans that address a range of stakeholder requirements
  • Assist with proposal and bid development; compiling case study information for completed projects and general support on marketing activities
  •  Represent the company in a professional and diligent manner; meeting and corresponding with clients to form strong working relationships
What skills and attributes are we looking for from you:
  • Minimum 2:1 at degree level, in any discipline
  •  MSc. Or post-graduate qualification or experience in an engineering/ mathematical field.
  • Evidence of strong quantitative and research skills, e.g., post graduate qualification or degree in STEM discipline

Essential sector experience required:
  • Minimum 3 years-experience within the sector including delivery of embodied carbon and / or whole life carbon assessments
  • Excellent knowledge of Life Cycle Assessments/ Embodied Carbon Assessments across design, build and operational phases of a building life-cycle
  • Strong knowledge of built environment / engineering/ building design
  • Advanced user of OneClick LCA or equivalent
  • Excellent numerical skills and experience of conducting/ interpreting complex data analysis
  • Evidence of proactive and collaborative approach to working
  • Ability to adapt to and problem solve common project issues, constraints and pressures
  • Good understanding of practical implications of building regulations and sector specific standards and guidelines for the UK market
  • Demonstrable experience of taking ownership of and leading projects/ tasks
  •  Highly proficient in MS Office suite, with general strong IT skills
Preferred sector experience required:
  • Roles / experience involving research, analysis, and presentations
  • Experience of construction operations
  • BIM / digital design / financial modelling knowledge would be welcomed
  •  Broader experience of sustainability in the build environment, including but not limited to: Sustainability Strategies, Green Plans, NZC Strategies, Circular Economy, building assessment schemes (BREEAM/ LEED/ WELL etc.), EIA’s, Operational Energy Assessments
Soft skills required:
  • Good technical writing, client-facing, and communication skills (both internal and external)
  • Able to review information quickly and efficiently, making decisions using an appropriate mix of analysis and judgement
  • Comfortable in working in teams and networking as well as working alone
  • Ability to prioritise overlapping deadlines, delivering all work outputs in an accurate and timely manner
  • Able to introduce innovative approaches that can be used to improve performance, reduce costs, increase quality, and improve business processes, and provide clear rationale and supporting data to justify solutions
