The role

As a Senior Internal Auditor within Orbit, you will sit within our Business Assurance directorate and play a vital role in identifying and carrying out internal audit work, to assess the effectiveness and adequacy of the system of internal control in questions, and to ensure the internal audit operational plan is delivered on a timely basis to agreed standards. You will lead on anti-fraud and whistle-blowing communications, and training throughout the group as whole. 

This role offers agile working, meaning you will be expected to work from either our Coventry or Stratford upon Avon office 2-3 days per week, with regular travel between offices. This role is part of Corporate Services, where you'll help us give colleagues the support they need to be brilliant. 

What you'll achieve:

You will be responsible for conducting internal audits across the organisation.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Determining the scope of plan, liaising with senior management to ensure the audit covers all expected aspects, providing clear recommendations and robust assurance opinions, liaising directly with stakeholders, including senior managers to ensure recommendations are understood.
  • Completing the audit from start to finish, liaising with internal stakeholders as relevant to ensure understanding and context. Applying own or researched knowledge of specific legislation and/or best practice to determine and influence full scope.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support business requirements, whilst supervising, directing, and monitoring the work of junior staff within the audit team including provision of technical support as required, and supporting internal development.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Housing Sector, providing in-house training and organisation wide communications on Anti-fraud methodologies and practices to improve the overall control levels across the Group.
  • Maintain awareness of changes and developments in regulatory, legislator and governance requirements to ensure that audit findings and department processes comply with best practice and sector requirements, and that emerging risks are adequately flagged and managed.

What you'll bring

Essential skills

  • IIA qualified and/or CCAB, or equivalent experience. 
  • Good understanding of risks and controls concerned with the housing sector, and good understanding of anti-fraud controls.
  • Recent, relevant experience in the performance of internal audit in corporate environment essential (key control areas) with experience in housing or care desirable.
  • Experience of writing detailed recommendation reports for a senior management audience.
  • Willing and able to travel, including overnight stays where required.
