Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

 

THE ROLE

  • The Chassis & Motion Control Systems Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading the delivery of Motion Systems Technologies onto a model year or platform, adhering to the customers programme timing and delivery cadence.
 

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Reporting to the Motion Controls Group Leader, lead the delivery of a new suspension technology onto multiple vehicle platforms.
  • Represent the team and the technology in multiple forums, ensuring our requirements are understood and communicated clearly. Any issues are to be captured and progressed.
  • Take responsibility for and manage the execution of delivery plans, presenting their progress in high level forums, escalation issues and roadblocks and identifying help required 
  • Lead the integration of the technology onto new vehicle lines, including project planning and issue management.
  • Working closely with application and core development teams in both chassis and electrical domains, ensuring that the Systems engineering process is followed. This includes integration of suspension control systems onto new vehicle platforms, interfacing with the networks, infotainment, Car Configuration File and switchgear teams to deliver an integrated solution to each vehicle.
  • Management of requirements including their verification using RMDV
  • Lead the functional safety process for the team ensuring all requirements and documentation are to the appropriate ISO26262 standard. 
  • Schedule and drive HIL/Vehicle inc. LABCar testing to ensure timing achieved.
  • Take responsibility for and mange build support amongst the team, in terms of ensuring all chassis modules are up to date, representative and fully functioning with other vehicle systems.
  • Forecasting and protection for appropriate vehicles, rigs & spares and facility bookings to support build phases and delivery plans
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time
 

KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Prior automotive controls experience such as Chassis, Vehicle Dynamics, or Longitudinal Control preferred, though strong candidates with relevant system experience from other industries such as aerospace will also be considered
  • Requirements and change management tools and processes, version control, control strategy documentation.
  • Component and system level issue investigations including appropriate problem solving and reporting tools (Six Sigma, 5D, Is / Is Not, Fault Tree etc)
  • Understanding of automotive networking, diagnostics and fault handling techniques, and related system development tools (CANalyzer, ASL, CANape, etc.)
  • Experience of safety critical systems and software, including standards such as ISO26262, IEC61508 or similar.
  • Experience in working with external companies delivering software components as part of a larger software product.
  • Self-starter, proactive with a delivery focused mindset
  • Motion Systems / Chassis Systems feature/system delivery experience
  • Project management experience
  • Strong communicator with experience working in fast paced environment
  • Experience of systems development and delivery through all stages of the engineering development ‘V’ cycle, including understanding of system principals
  • Knowledge of MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Automotive or Electrical Engineering Degree with Automotive industry experience.
  • Full UK driving license
 

Preferred:

  • Vector Toolsets – CANape / CANalyzer
  • Diagnostics and fault-finding experience
