Smart Metering Data Improvement Manager - 6 Month Secondment

Salary & Benefits: £44,290 - £55,363. Benefits include annual bonus, attractive pension scheme (up to 10% company contribution), 25 days annual leave and days in lieu of working bank holidays plus a wellness day. Work type: This is a temporary position, working an average of 37 hours per week.

Yorkshire Water has ambitions to reduction Leakage, Per Capita Consumption and Non-household demand, and have recently submitted its case to the environmental regular DEFRA/EA and financial regulator OFWAT for the next 5 years funding. Within these plans we wish to replace 1.4Million customer meters, with Smart Meters, between 2025-2030, and install a further ~160,000 meters. This means moving from a solution which logs how much water has been used on a monthly basis and which is read every 6 months by AMR, to understanding what water has been used on an hourly basis with only a 6 hour delay in receiving the reading, utilising a Internet of Things Network.

To leverage this data to its full extend we are putting in place a team to fully understand the future service improvements, cost efficiencies and new service offerings we can provide. The team will be looking to design the end to end transition for meter related services, creating new or amending existing capabilities, designing new processes, defining analytic requirements, improving data quality, effectively contract managing partners and working with Tech to develop and embed the solutions to have us ready for smart metering in April 2025.

The project team initial objective is to create an initial capability and programme roadmap, at which point the ongoing team requirements can be designed for extension of the programme team into 2025 and beyond.

This role will take responsibility for the Data Quality of the Metering Data that is held within YW corporate systems ensuring that the any data inaccuracies are corrected, systems are aligned, and new data governance processes are in place ready for start of the AMP8 smart metering programme.

Where you fit in:

As our Data Improvement Manager you will:

  • Lead the metering asset record data reconciliation process to align the Meter Data Management System (Temetra & Yorbill)
  • Ensure that the Metering assets records are consistent across all YW corporate systems including Yorbil, Temetra, Strategic Data Platform
  • Create a meter asset data cleanse strategy ensuring this is aligned with the wider business data governance strategy
  • Create work packages to fix any data inaccuracies in the metering asset data
  • Manage a team of data analysts prioritising work and fixing data mismatches
  • Work with the business SMEs and Tech to ensure that the current and future business processes do not impact the data integrity and ensure that this is future proofed
  • Support the utility contract regulation process for the AMP8 smart metering contract liaising with third parties and providing data as required 
  • Ensure strict data governance processes are in safeguarding compliance with GDPR and DPIA regulations
  • Develop and implement the processes to ensure that the meter technical asset details are collected, validated and transferred into YW corporate systems during the AMP 8 meter exchange programme

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Understanding of Data Management and Governance
  • Experience using a Data Quality framework
  • Ability to interpret and organize large amounts of data.
  • Experience of developing and managing procedures and demonstrating compliance with processes
  • Have previous team leader experience balanced with analytical and creative abilities
  • Experience of supporting and embedding change, able to influence and drive the right culture and behaviours.
  • Agile and ability to multi-task, pivot and prioritise different projects
  • Ability to engage and influence at a senior level, both within the organisation and externally
  • Resilient and positive in a demanding and changing environment, with the capacity to deliver results to tight deadlines and under pressure

You will also benefit from having:

  • Experience in a regulated environment
  • Understanding of Yorbill, ICE, SAP, Temetra
  • Understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework within which YW operates
  • Proficiency with wider databases and data management technologies – SQL, SAP Business Objects, Power BI etc.
